Transformers within the line of sight of the cellular GridLink RTM Master will connect reliably using Modbus protocol. Repeaters can be used,as seen in the diagram below, to connect strings that are not in sight of the master.

Unlike mesh networks that utilize a much higher bandwidth to transmit the same amount of data, FreeWave’s proven networking technology will not collapse when hundreds or thousands of transformers are alarming simultaneously.

With on board I/O, the FreeWave radio offers the capability of temperature and current monitoring in a single package. This is the only monitoring system that has virtually unlimited scalability enabling the Utility to provide a real time connection to many devices that many people may access to manage and maintain thousands of IP connections, provide trending, alarming, send text or email messages securely and economically over a wide area.

Remote Ring Switch Monitoring is achieved in minutes by simply dropping in a Sixnet IPm Modbus RTU or the IndustrialPro-M2 router with embedded Modbus Master. Either will connect with IPm WebControl instantly to offer monitoring of multiple sites anywhere in the world with an Internet connection.

In this example, a large wind turbine installation, the Sixnet ring switches are monitored remotely through MODBUS/UDP polling. There are a number of methods to alert operators of any break in the ring. The WebControl enabled Sixnet RTU or IndustrialPro-M2 router can be installed without any configuration. This can be done remotely.

Export Modbus registers from your Sixnet ring switch software and import to the IPm WebControl server. The new configuration will download immediately or at a time you choose. Any problems, simply roll back to the last configuration.

Utilizing a non-polling SCADA design, IPm WebControl puts the intelligence in the RTU by pushing data to the server and pulling down any updates or changes in the application.

Plug your Sixnet IPm into the network. It connects to a secure Internet site, downloads its configuration and starts working. A truly Plug and Play solution.

Your data is logged on change of state and sent up to a central server every five seconds to minimize network traffic. IPm WebControl is built to prevent data loss, so if the internet connection is lost, the host alerts the user. The RTU keeps logging data locally. When the connection is restored the data is back filled to the host.

IPm WebControl keeps multiple recipients fully informed on the status of all assets, eliminating the need to constantly monitor widely distributed equipment or applications.

Based in Durham, North Carolina, Semprius Inc. is a leader in the development of high concentration photovoltaic (HCPV) panels for utility-scale solar power generation in sunny, dry climates. The company’s unique micro-transfer printing technology increases the performance and reliability and decreases the cost of HCPV panels.

The integrated intelligence and communications solution features a controller; FreeWave FGR2-PE wireless Ethernet radio; a modular and scalable design — 12, 16, 20 or 24 strings; built-in diagnostics for remote troubleshooting; remote PLC code upload capability via wireless interface; and, a fully labeled panel for ease of installation and maintenance.

FreeWave FGR2-PE IP wireless Ethernet radios are deployed for the pilot. In addition, FreeWave’s FGR2-PE radios are deployed at the O&M office and act as stand-alone master radios. Within the integrated solution, FreeWave’s radios facilitate solar panel tracking by transmitting data to the tracker’s motor to determine which direction PV panels must face for optimal solar power generation.

“Implementing the FreeWave radios has gone smoothly; the entire process fits our ‘Plug and Play’ design philosophy,” said John Gabriel, Engineer, at Semprius Inc, “In fact, we’ve discovered that the FreeWave radios are boringly reliable.”

FreeWave’s FGRplus family of radios has been successfully used for applications in alternative energy markets. It offers 2-ports each of active serial and Ethernet wireless connectors using license-free spread spectrum for long distance data communication.

Key features and benefits of the FGR2-PE include:

Transtion to IP-based communications without replacing other hardware such as RTUs.

Compatibility with other FreeWave FGRplus family radios.

Two Ethernet ports and two serial ports immediately activated and at NO ADDITIONAL COST.

Best-in-class wireless serial or Ethernet communication over long distances and in difficult RF environments all in addressable, secure IP.

Low power consumption, which makes it suitable for remote installations and leads to significant cost savings.

An industrial-grade, small and rugged enclosure that offers mounting and installation versatility.

Integrated security options (e.g. AES encryption) and proprietary spread spectrum technology.

About FreeWave Technologies

The RTM is compatable with all major SCADA Systems. When connected to IPmWebControl web server, the Remote Terminal Unit automatically connects, downloads its configuration and begins functioning. There is no field configuration necessary because it is done on the web page or by uploading a CSV (Excel) spread sheet before the RTM is installed.

This is the only monitoring system that has virtually unlimited scalability enabling the Utility to provide a real time connection to many devices that many people may access to manage and maintain thousands of IP connections, provide trending, alarming, send text or email messages securely and economically over a wide area.

FEATURES

Basic Unit will monitor temperature and report alarms upon pre-configured events

RTM is plug and play and will auto configure upon installation from web server.

Modbus RTU/ASCII Master/Slave expands the RTM with capability to poll and data log Modbus devices over RS485 or Ethernet. DNP3 Available

Tag based data logger time stamped on change of state based on configurable threshold.

Configuration includes defining limit alarms and change of temperature over a period of time.

Modem will store logged data locally and forward to web server based on alarm event.

RTM will back fill data to server upon restoration of a loss of communication.

RTM will notify web server of hardware health, communication quality and power in pre-configured periods. Failure to receive notification will initiate an alarm.

Alarms to be notified via SMS text or Email via web server and shown on the Web screen.

Configuration changes and firmware upgrade allowed to be changed from web host.

Web host is configured via Excel spread sheet.
